the company

The company was started as Hardwater Associates in 1990 by Jim Lindsay. Since then, our activities have expanded beyond computer systems so in 2006, we changed the name of the computer side of the business to MacMasters

who we are

Jim Lindsay—Technical manager

Jim has worked with Macintosh computers since they first appeared in 1984. His early background was in magazine publishing, initially as a journalist then as an Editor and finally as a Publisher of seven magazines for EMAP

He was heavily involved in the early days of what was then known as Desktop Publishing and was among the first people in the UK to produce professional news stand magazines using Macintosh computer systems.

Jim keeps in touch with current design practices and software tools by carrying out regular graphic design work for The Royal Horticultural Society.

Jim Lindsay is an Apple Certified Engineer.

Jo Poulter—Technician

Jo Poulter has broad experience of solving software and hardware problems on Macintosh computers. Jo holds Apple Help Desk Specialist certification and will be taking her OS X Server qualifications this year.

Chris Thorpe—Consultant and programmer

Chris Thorpe is an experienced programmer and is responsible for the technical side of our database projects.

His experience covers many aspects of programming from straightforward task management solutions through advanced database creation to fully featured open source based content management systems.

Chris also provides advice and consultancy on a wide range of matters

Margaret Lindsay

Margaret is a partner in the business and is responsible for all the financial and administrative aspects of MacMasters and the parent company, Hardwater Associates.

Other associates

We have working relationships with other specialists in many different fields particularly in the area of the Windows PC platform where we are able to cover Microsoft Small Business Server, Microsoft Exchange and most matters related to Window PC workstations in a mixed Macintosh and PC environment.
