Troubleshooting
Mac crashing or freezing, won't start up, can't connect to the internet?
We offer an efficient affordable troubleshooting service for all Macintosh problems. With our up to date knowledge backed by many years of experience, we can solve just about any problem.
If it's fixable, we can fix it
Sometimes, particularly with older Macs, repair is not an economical option. If this is the case, we will tell you and advise you on the best replacement.
Remember, we do not sell hardware or software so our advice is impartial.
Advice
Want to buy a new Macintosh but not sure what model to go for? Want to switch to broadband but note sure how to go about it? Give us a call and we will tell which machine is best for you.
This service is free for home users.
For complex setups with several computers, we will visit your house and provide a written specification with costs.
This is a chargeable service.
We can also sometimes fix minor problems by telephone. If the call takes ten minutes or less, this service is free. You can also email us with queries on advice@macmasters.co.uk.. We will respond as soon as we can.
Upgrades
More memory, a bigger hard drive, replace the internal CD drive with a DVD writer a newer operating system?
We can help you with all of these.
This is the one instance where we can also supply the hardware if you wish.
We use only top quality components. All our RAM is from Crucial. For hard drives we favour Seagate. These choices are based on our own experience of performance and reliability.
If we think that the upgrade you want is not worthwhile because of the age, specification or condition of your Mac, we will tell you.
Hardware repairs
Macs are well built compared with many personal computers. If you have a problem it will usually be software related.
However, even Macintosh hardware breaks sometimes. When it does, we offer a full repair service. If the repair is uneconomical, we will tell you.
If your Macintosh gets damaged accidentally, we can provide and insurance quotation for a fixed fee.
Home network setup

- Do you want to have a wireless network installed so you can work anywhere in the home?

We offer a full service for setting up home networks. We will advise you on the hardware, provide a full specification with costs if necessary and then set everything up for you.
We can also configure Windows PCs to run on your network and share files with your Macintosh computers.
Tuition
If you are new to Macintosh or if you simply want to know how to make better use of your system, we offer tuition in your own home at a pace to suit you.
Charges
When we come to you
Callout charges
No callout charge if you live in Peterborough. Charge varies outside Peterborough depending on your postcode.
Hourly charges
When we come to you we charge by the hour. Our minimum charge is one hour and after that we charge by the half hour.

When you come to us
For hardware repairs and upgrades, it is more economical for you to bring your machine to us. We will give you a fixed rate for the job.
A significant amount of the work in repairs and upgrades involves lengthy software installations and testing of the final job.
The advantages to you are:
- No callout charge
- A fixed rate so you can budget accordingly
- You do not have to pay for us to sit waiting for software installations to complete or test routines to run
